SNBF Pro Bodybuilder

As a sophomore (1981)  at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota I was watching the Ms. Olympia Bodybuilding Championship and saw Cory Everson.  I liked her style and physique.  I told my mom that I was going to compete one day.   Nineteen years later, I competed in my first bodybuilding competition:  Spacecoast Open in Deland, Florida.  Tom Cheek and Neely Benson went with me and we had a blast.  I won the heavyweight trophy, but did not win the overall.  I headed to Atlanta, GA for the Eastern Seaboard Jr. Competition.  This was an NPC competition and the Open was a National qualifier.  There were some “huge” women at that competition.  I won my division (heavyweight), but again fell short of winning the overall.  In 1992, Brandy Taylor, Jamie Gaylord and I traveled to Jacksonville, Florida for a NANBA natural competition.  Brandy and Jamie competed in the Teenage division.  Brandy was second and Jamie was 5th.  I won my division, yet again, fell short of the overall.  I did another competition in 1994, Suncoast Open and I won the heavyweight and finally took home the overall trophy!  The last competition I did is pictured below:  Tampa Bay Classic.  I said I would NEVER compete again.  Well, never say never, because something inside of me said, “Go for it!”  In April, I decided to compete again.  I searched the internet to find a natural competition.  Who would have thought that a natural bodybuilding competition would have a scripture on it’s flyer.  Yes, a scripture.  The North Florida Bodybuilding Classic that was held on Saturday, August 22 at Tallahassee was the ONE!  The scripture is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20   “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”  I was only going to compete in the Women’s Master BB (40+), however, Jill and Pam insisted that I compete in the Women’s Open, as well.  I said that I didn’t feel ready or prepared for that one.  Once again, Jill and Pam were not taking NO for an answer.  I personally thanked them for encouraging me to compete.  HE definitely gets ALL the glory.  For without HIM, I am nothing.  With HIM, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”  ~Philippians 4:13~  Most of all, I enjoyed taking the picture of my children–20 years later with me.

Pre-judging Saturday morning.  This is the symmetry round where the competitor’s do quarter turns and the judges look at the symmetry of each competitor.  The next round is a series of mandatory poses.  The judges compare the competitor’s each pose.  All judging is completed in the morning.

This was the evening show.  All bodybuilding competitor’s do a 60 second routine that highlights their best poses.  This is where each competitor gets to have “fun” and do their best to get the crowd to get involved.  This is my favorite part.  🙂  I chose the song “Live it Up” by J-Lo and Pitbull.

I have continued on my nutrition plan and have went back to the gym to work on a few “troubled” areas.  I have decided to compete in the Grand Finale which will be held at Suwanee, Georgia on Saturday, November 7.  I know I have my work cut out for me, however, I am approaching this competition with my eyes wide open.  This will be the first SNBF Pro Bodybuilding competition for me and I am going expecting to learn so much from the other competitor’s.  I want to see, first hand, what a Pro show is all about and to take back valuable information and experience.  I want to represent the SNBF organization to the best of my ability.

Here are a couple of pictures that were taken by my daughter, Stonee, from the SNBF Pro show that was held on November 7, 2015 at Suwannee, Georgia.  I had a GREAT time and learned so much.  I am looking forward to 2016.
